Report on 2011 South Africa Mission Trip

"The area is teeming with kids!" is how Woodford and Bethany were described, and that was no exaggeration. In September, Prevention Time sent a 22-member team to these two rural Zulu villages in the very heart of the AIDS pandemic. After the 24-hour flight to Johannesburg and further six hour drive to the villages, the team assisted in rolling out the Reach4Life© HIV/AIDS prevention program to about 1,000 students at the Woodford primary and high schools (grades 5-12). In an area where people struggle with disease and the loss of loved ones, the Reach4Life© program provides the education and moral compass needed to help kids make wise life choices.

The team also worked with local church leaders, Ma Msibi (Bethany) and Pastor Maphalala (Woodford), to provide kids' clubs in each village, with literally hundreds of kids participating. Food parcels, medical kits, and pillowcase dresses were distributed. The team visited people in their huts. The Jesus Film was shown and a concert was performed by the music team. Family and individual photos were taken, and many hours were spent printing them on the portable printers donated by HP.

Prevention Time thanks the many supporters who helped make this work possible.

Realizing the Potential of Every African Child

Prevention Time is a non-denominational Christian organization that seeks to save the lives of young people from HIV and AIDS and allow them to reach their full potential. Our efforts are focused on South Africa because it is the country with the highest number of HIV infections in the world, with an estimated 5.7 million people currently infected.

Stopping the virus is dependent on changing the behavior of the next generation. This fact is recognized by world leaders and by HIV/AIDS experts. On December 1, 2009, World AIDS Day, Jacob Zuma, President of South Africa, said, "We have to stop the spread of HIV. We must reduce the rate of new infections. Prevention is our most powerful weapon against the epidemic." Michel Sidibe, Executive Director of UNAIDS said in his message, "On World AIDS Day let us also act on HIV prevention. For every two people put on treatment, five are newly infected. Too often prevention programmes are not reaching those most in need." Prevention Time sponsors an HIV/AIDS prevention curriculum promoting wise life choices, especially with regard to sexual behavior.

We also provide assistance to children who have lost parents or are suffering from life-threatening illnesses by sponsoring Khayelisha Care, which offers a range of support services to orphans and vulnerable children.

Our desire to help is based on the example of Jesus. He had compassion for people and said we are to love others as much as we love ourselves. No one individual or organization can solve the world’s problems, but when a group of people join together and each one gives just a little, some needs can be met.  We invite you to join us in our fight against HIV!
